Competitions—Frequently Asked Questions

Q- How do I register for a UDA regional or state level competition?

A- There are a couple of different ways that you can register for a UDA competition. You can register online by visiting connect.varsity.com. Using the competition search, you will be able to search by state for the competition you would like to attend, and register via the website. You can also register for any competition by calling or emailing your UDA State Director or calling 1-800-DANCEUDA, and a representative can help you over the phone.

Q- How do I know what time my team will be performing at competition?

A- The State Director for the competition will email the schedule a week 10 days before the competition. Schedule will be available online after final changes are made.  The order will list rehearsal, performance, and award ceremony times. Please know that all times are tentative and subject to change due to additions or cancellations. Please check back for an updated order the Wednesday prior to the competition.

Q- When and how do I pay for competition?

A- Payment for competition is due at least 2 weeks prior to the event. We STRONGLY recommend NOT bringing your payment to the actual competition site. Please pay BEFORE your competition. UDA welcomes school checks, money orders, cashiers checks, and credit card payments. UDA will not accept personal checks. If your school check has not cleared by the Friday prior to the event, you will be required to make a payment before your team can compete. To pay with a credit card, please call 1-800-326-2383. **Please note that you will be charged for the number of participants that you register. If the number of participants you will have at a competition changes, please call our office immediately to update your numbers so that you are only charged for the number of people you will be bringing.

Q- What divisions and categories are offered at your competitions?

A- We have the school division and the all-star division. The school division is comprised of Junior High, Junior Varsity, Varsity and College divisions. To determine which school division your team is in, please visit our Rules and Regulations page. The all-star division is comprised of the Tiny, Mini, Youth, Junior, Senior, and Open divisions. Q- Are the Varsity School divisions split into Small, Medium and Large Varsity at your regional competitions?

A- Whether or not the Varsity division is split by team, size is dependent upon the number of teams in a varsity category. In the event there are 10 or more teams in a division/category, UDA reserves the right to split into small, medium and large. The splitting guidelines are listed on the Rules and Regulations page, and will be at the discretion of UDA and the Event Producer; however, UDA will try to split according to the division breakdown used at NDTC.

Q- How many categories can my team compete in?

A- Each team is allowed to compete in 2 categories. You can compete in additional categories for an additional fee.

Q- Do you offer a solo competition at your regional events?

A- Some of our regional competitions do offer a solo division. It is indicated online if a specific event does NOT have a solo competition. If you have members who are interested in competing in the solo division, contact your UDA State Director to find out if the solos division will be offered at the event you are attending. The limit is 5 soloists per team.

Q- How do I know what time I need to arrive to check-in my team?

A- After you register for competition, you will be able to log-in to Connect.Varsity.com to view detailed information regarding what time you should arrive to check-in your team, an address of the event location, prices for spectators, and any additional information that may be relevant to the event you are attending.

Q- Who needs to fill out medical release forms and who does not?

A- All-Star teams do not need to fill out Medical Release forms. Participants on school teams ARE REQUIRED to fill out medical release forms for each event. The coach, advisor, or team representative MUST bring all of the medical release forms with them to check-in. If a participant does not completely fill out a medical release form with all of the appropriate signatures, they will not be allowed to perform. 

Q- Will the competition results be posted online?

A- We try to post competition results by the Tuesday after the competition. However, competition results are removed from the site a month after the competition has concluded. 

Q- Can my team qualify for the National Dance Team Championship by attending one of your regional competitions?

A- All-Star teams can qualify at our regional competitions for the National Dance Team Championships by placing (i.e. 1st, 2nd, etc) in a particular category. School Teams that attended a 2017 UDA Overnight Summer Camp with 10 or more members, and did not qualify for NDTC at camp, have the opportunity to qualify at a regional competition.

Q - How do we qualify for NDTC?

A - 

1. Receiving a home routine trophy at UDA camp with 7 or more dancers in attendance. 

2. Receiving a Superior Trophy at UDA camp with 7 or more dancers in attendance. 

3. Receiving a trophy at a UDA Fall Competition if the team attended a camp with 7 or more participants.
